FORT DOUGLAS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Fort Douglas Safety Information

While all reasonable measures have been taken to ensure the safety of our visitors and to provide information and warning signs, each adult visitor has a responsibility for their own safety and those of their fellow visitors whilst on site. Please note the following whilst at Fort Douglas:

• All little adventurers need to be accompanied by an adult (age 18+).
• Adult-only groups (age 13+) are not allowed in Fort Douglas.
• You’ll find bathrooms at the entrance in the Fort Douglas Hub and another beside The Coffee Cabin in the centre of the playground.
• Unfortunately dogs are not allowed to go into Fort Douglas, but can enjoy the rest of Dalkeith Country Park. Assistance dogs that have the appropriate certification/collars are permitted in Fort Douglas, but must be kept on lead at all times.
• The majority of the equipment in this playground is designed to be moderately challenging. Some items may only be suitable for over 5s or 6s (you’ll see a 6+ blue sticker).
• Big people decide. Only you know the abilities and limitations of the children in your care. Please keep an eye on them and make sure they’re playing safely.
• Be safe. Keep away from the river banks.
• Decide on a meeting point in case your group splits up.
• Please note BBQs are not permitted here, but we have lots of picnic benches.
• In the event of an emergency, please contact a member of staff or dial 999.
• We recommend booking online in advance to secure your visit and receive the best available ticket price.
• You will be able to use your ticket anytime during the all day session from 10.00 – 17.00.
• Tickets will be scanned at the entrance.
• Tickets are non-refundable except in cases of a Force Majeure Event.

FORT DOUGLAS PARTY TERMS & CONDITIONS

• Parties must be booked up to 48 hours in advance.
• Party bookings are non-refundable. We can try and move your booking to a different date however this is subject to availability, and we must be notified 48 hours prior to your booking.  
• All little adventures attending a party need to be accompanied by at least one adult (age 18+) at all times.
• Birthday cakes must be purchased 1 week in advance of booking and are non-refundable.  

FRIENDS OF DALKEITH MEMBERSHIP TERMS & CONDITIONS

• Friends of Dalkeith memberships are purchased online and you will be issued with an e-ticket. This will give temporary access to the Park.
• Once you’ve received your confirmation email please collect your card from the Parking Hut between 09.00 – 17.00 any day of the week.
• Oak memberships are per car and you will be asked to provide your car registration number when collecting your card.
• Show your card to receive 10% discount in The Kitchen for up to 6 people. Discount not applicable in other catering outlets or The Store.

DALKEITH PALACE TOUR TERMS & CONDITIONS

• All Palace Tour tickets are non-refundable.
• In exceptional circumstances, we will endeavour to move your Palace Tour booking to another date. Please contact Dalkeith Country Park directly to discuss your booking.
• We reserve the right to cancel or close Dalkeith Palace. If this happens, we will refund the full ticket cost, including the booking fee.
• Palace Tour tickets must be booked in advance.
• Promotional codes and discounts cannot be used in conjunction with any other promotion, discount or offer. Promotional codes are not valid on seasonal event tickets (including Halloween, Christmas and Easter trails) or annual passes.

FORT DOUGLAS HALLOWEEN COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• The competition is open to visitors taking part in our Halloween activities between 10 October and 1 November 2026.
• To enter, submit a photo of your Halloween fancy dress to us using the competition entry button or email to info@dalkeithcountrypark.co.uk
• One winner will be selected at random from all eligible entries.
• The winner will receive Fort Douglas passes for one year for a maximum of 2 adults and 3 children.
• The winner will be contacted directly by Dalkeith Country Park using the contact details provided with their entry.
• If the winner does not respond within a reasonable period, Dalkeith Country Park reserves the right to select an alternative winner.
• The prize is non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash or any other prize.
• By submitting a photo, you confirm that you have permission for the image to be shared with Dalkeith Country Park for competition purposes.
• Dalkeith Country Park reserves the right to amend, suspend or withdraw the competition where necessary.

THE BIG HALLOWEEN SCREEN TERMS AND CONDITIONS

• Tickets are non-refundable except in cases of a Force Majeure Event.

• Your ticket is only valid for the date and time specified on your email confirmation. 
• One child per ticket. Every child or baby booked at Santa’s Grotto requires a ticket – gifts are age appropriate. 
• Your ticket enables you to visit Fort Douglas. If you are unable to visit Fort Douglas on the day of your booking then you are welcome to use your entry ticket to Fort Douglas on another date however this must be used before the 25 December.  
• The maximum number we can accept in a 10 minute time slot is two adults and three children to ensure every child gets the most out of their visit. You only pay for children. 
• Tickets are non-refundable unless we have to cancel the event.  
• Presents cannot be exchanged either during or after the Santa’s Grotto experience. 
• Your child will receive a present deemed suitable for the age given when purchasing tickets. 
• If you are driving to The Park you will need to pay our £4 parking charge on arrival.  
• If your child has a specific access need please let us know by emailing our team on santa@dalkeithcountrypark.co.uk. 

Terms and Conditions

If you are unable to visit Fort Douglas on the day of your booking then you are welcome to use your entry ticket to Fort Douglas on another date however this must be used before the 25th December. No booking required as there will be a list of names at the FD Hub. Please note Fort Douglas is open 10am to 3:30pm  

• The maximum number of adults per booking is 2. The maximum number of kids per booking is 4.  

• Tickets are non-refundable unless we have to cancel the event.

• Your child will receive a present deemed suitable for the age given when purchasing tickets. 

• If you are driving to the park you will need to pay our £4 parking charge on arrival.

• Ticket availability is limited and bookings will be allocated on a first come first served basis.  
• Every adult and child attending requires a ticket.  
• Your child will receive a present deemed suitable for the age given when booking breakfast. Please note Santa’s presents cannot be exchanged during or after the breakfast and cannot be exchanged for cash or returned.  
• Your ticket enables you to visit Fort Douglas Adventure Playground on the day of your booking and cannot be redeemed any other day. If you are unable to visit Fort Douglas on the day of your booking then you are welcome to use your entry ticket to Fort Douglas on another date however this must be used before 25 December. No booking required as our team will have your name at the Fort Douglas Hub.

1. The Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink shall be entitled to remove anyone from the venue, or any attraction, at any time, who is under the influence of drugs or alcohol or who, in the reasonable opinion of the Staff, is conducting themselves in a manner inappropriate to their continued attendance. The Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink shall be entitled to request visitors leave the venue at any time. In this eventuality no refund will be given for any ticket cost or payments made to the Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink, or any associated attractions. 
2. Smoking (including use of e-cigarettes), eating, drinking and the use of photographic and recording equipment or mobile phones is prohibited whilst on the rink. This is to maintain a safe environment for users of the skating rink. Only food and drink which has been purchased from the venue can be consumed within the allocated area(s). 
3. By entering the site, visitors consent to being photographed, filmed or recorded and consent to such photographs, films or recordings being used by Dalkeith Country Park to publicise the event in the future. 
4. The ticket holder only has a right to the session outlined up to the corresponding value stated on the ticket.    
5. Ticket holders cannot sell, cancel or transfer their tickets under any circumstances. Refunds are issued at the sole discretion of the Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink. Dalkeith Country Park will not be responsible for any tickets which are lost, stolen or purchased in error.  
6. Admission to the skating rink is by ticket only. All skaters must have a valid ticket. All tickets are issued subject to rules and regulations of the venue.   
7. Each skating session is up to 45 minutes long.  
8. Each visitor is responsible for attending their session 15 – 30 minutes before the allocated session time starts. The Dalkeith Country Park Rink is not liable if the visitor arrives late for any reason and misses their session. The Dalkeith Country Park Rink is not obliged to refund the ticket or reallocate a new session time. 
9. Skate aids will be available on a first come, first served basis (subject to availability). 
10. Skate aids are available in limited numbers. The Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink is under no obligation, and is unable, to provide a skate aid for all children. 
11. If you choose not to attend your allocated session due to the weather conditions or decide to leave early, no refund, either in part or in whole, will be given. 
12. If you have been removed from the rink or venue for inappropriate behaviour, you will not be issued a refund or an alternative session. 
13. All customers that skate or enter any part of the venue do so at their own risk.  
14. Participating in skating carries an inherent risk. Any participation is totally at the user’s own risk. Anyone with any medical conditions, serious previous injuries, recently broken bones, knee or joint problems, head injuries, pregnancy, mobility problems, or taking prescribed drugs, should carefully consider whether it is safe for them to participate without endangering themselves or other participants whilst ice skating. The Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink is not liable for any injury, loss or damage however caused. 
15. The Dalkeith Country Park Skating Rink accepts no responsibility for damage, loss or theft of any personal property that occurs whilst ticket holders are on any part of the site. 

• Registration is open from 9am and will take in the Skate Shack which can be found beside the Orangerie Here is where you will pick up your festive Hat. 

• For the 1k, registration will close at 10am and the race will begin in at 10:15am. The race will finish at the same location as the starting point. 

• For the 3k, registration will close at 10:30am and the race will begin at 10:45am. The race will finish at the same location as the starting point. 

• Please note that some sections of the trail will be rough and uneven and potentially muddy. Please wear appropriate footwear. 

• Dogs are welcome to take part in the 1K as long as they’re on a lead. Ramping up the fun factor, we are giving prizes for the best dressed dog as well as prizes for the winner of each race. 

• Please note none of our races are timed. 

• It is your responsibility to ensure you are fit and able to take part n the event and you are aware that the organizers, their employees and volunteers cannot be held responsible for any personal injury or accident as a consequence of your participation in our event. 

• If you have a medical condition that may result in treatment being needed during the event, please ensure the team are aware of this prior to the race. 

• If you think you need medical attention during the dash, inform the nearest marshal who will be wearing hi-vis vests. 

• If you are driving, you will also need to pay our £4 parking charge which you can pay for on the day by cash or card.
