THE CAMPSITE AT DALKEITH COUNTRY PARK FAQs

We can’t wait to welcome you to our gorgeous rural campsite. We’re located just outside Edinburgh, in Midlothian. Directions to Dalkeith Country Park. We’ve put together some FAQs below to help you plan your stay. 

Bookings for our campsite pitches are taken online except in the cases of large groups. Unfortunately we cannot take individual bookings over the phone or email. We are now open for bookings from 15th July until mid August 2022. Please note that bookings are for a minimum of 2 nights. 

Check in for camping at Dalkeith Country Park is between 3pm-6pm and check out is by 10am. As you have the freedom to select your own pitch, you may wish to check in at the same time as friends or family you want to camp beside. Please ensure you check in during these hours as the main vehicle entrance to the Park closes at 7pm. If you need to check in at a different times please contact us. 

Yes, we will have showers with hot water available on site and toilets at our Dalkeith Country Park Campsite. Unfortunately we are not able to provide disabled toilets or facilities at this time. The facilities are rented on site and are basic, but help provide the real camping experience in a beautiful location close to Edinburgh. 

There is a Morrison’s (EH22 1HQ) and Sainsbury’s Local (EH22 2RF) within a five minute drive of our campsite location. 

The Kitchen at Restoration Yard on site is open seven days from 9.30am. We recommend pre-booking especially at weekends. In Dalkeith town centre you’ll find a selection of restaurants and a takeaway on the High Street, Lasswade is close by or the Newington area of Edinburgh is a short drive where you’ll find many places to dine. 

So much! You can get 25% off tickets to Fort Douglas adventure playground if you book at the same time as booking your pitch for camping at Dalkeith Country Park. You’ll also find Restoration Yard Store and Restaurant in our beautifully restored stable block and courtyard. Plus, an endless list of outdoor activities in The Park. Check our events programme to see what’s on during your stay.

Yes, group campsite bookings can be accepted from organised groups. Bookings for all groups, including large family or friend groups, must be notified and approved by us before booking. The campsite is not suitable for stag or hen parties. If you want to use the campsite for this type of group please contact us. Group bookings may only be made by contacting the booking office and cannot be made online. 

As our campsite is a seasonal addition to the Dalkeith Country Park we unfortunately do not at this time. 

Yes and there is no parking charge for campers, unless you are bringing more than one car. Extra cars are charged at £3 per day. As our campsite is gloriously traffic free there is a short walk from the car park to the campsite (under 200 metres). There will be plenty of trolleys available to help with the transport of tents and bags to your pitch. 

Please help us keep the serenity of this rural camping experience just that by not driving your car by the camping site between the hours of 11pm and 7am. 

  • Small Pre pitched (up to 2 people)
  • Medium Pre pitched (up to 2 adults 2 children)
  • Small Tent (up to 3 people) – 4m x 3m
  • Medium Tent (up to 5 people, max 4 adults) – 6m x 5m
  • Large (up to 8 people, max 4 adults) – 8m x 8m

Please note only one tent is allowed per pitch.

If you have booked a pitch only, yes.  We have some small and medium pre-pitched tents which you can select on booking camping at Dalkeith Country Park, Edinburgh. Our pre-pitched tents include air beds. 

Yes, BBQs are allowed in the designated areas on the campsite. To keep everyone safe, please don’t BBQ beside your tent and ensure your BBQ is disposed of in the bins provided. 

Yes, a maximum of two dogs are allowed per pitch, however not if you are booking a pre pitched tent. The cost is £2 per dog. Please keep dogs on a lead on the camp site and ensure any dog poo is cleaned up promptly and disposed of in the bins provided. No other pets are allowed.

We do not currently allow campervans, caravans or motorhomes in the campsite at Dalkeith Country Park. 

The full amount is taken on booking. 

Refunds are only given over 30 days in advance of the booking, no refunds after this time. There is a £15 administration fee when cancelling. If you cancel your booking 14-30 days before we will refund 50% of your booking. If you cancel less than 14 days before your holiday starts we will not be able to refund you. 

There isn’t electricity available on site however our reception will have some available if urgently needed. 

Yes, there will be fresh water available at the washing up area.  

There is no WIFI on the campsite however during the day Restoration Yard will be open which has free WIFI in the restaurant, The Kitchen. There is good 4G coverage on site too.  

There will be two sinks with cold water available to use on site.

SPECTACLE OF LIGHT FAQS

We highly recommend buying your tickets in advance. Each time slot has limited availability and the most popular slots sell out quickly. Plus, you’ll save money by buying online in advance.

Please bring your ticket with the QR code on it. This can be via a printed ticket or mobile phone. If you booked a loyalty ticket please also bring your loyalty card.

Tickets are only valid for the specific date and entry time stated on the ticket. You may be refused entry if you arrive after your chosen time.

Please check your junk folder first. If you cannot find it please email spectacle@dalkeithcountrypark.co.uk or call 0131 654 1666 and we will look into it for you.

Yes, you can do this by emailing our team at  spectacle@dalkeithcountrypark.co.uk – please provide a minimum of 48 hours notice to ensure your booking can be changed. Changes will depend on the availability of tickets.

Spectacle of Light will only be cancelled if either extreme weather makes the route unsafe, if there is a major fault in our electrical supply or equipment, or Government restrictions on the pandemic tighten once again.

Spectacle of Light is an outdoor event and will not be cancelled due to rain or extreme cold. Visitors are advised to dress appropriately for the weather conditions. No refunds will be offered if the weather is inclement but the Spectacle is safe to go ahead.

In the event of a cancellation, we would attempt to re-allocate your tickets to an alternative evening. However, if this is not possible and you would prefer a refund, payment will be made to you within 14 days.

A decision to cancel the event would be taken at 2pm on the day of the event. Shortly after that we would endeavour to contact you by email, a notice would be posted on our website and updates would be issued through our social media channels.

If you are concerned about the weather conditions on the evening of your visit, please check the website to confirm that the event is going ahead.

Yes, it is suitable for all ages and very much a family event. The experience is based in Fort Douglas adventure play ground and centres around children being able to explore, climb, slide and zip after dark. Spectacle of Light is designed for families with children, rather than adult only groups.

Yes, Loyalty Cardholders received 25% off the full ticket price until 31st August 2022. This is valid for use for up to five people in your booking. You will need your loyalty card number when booking and to present at the entry gate.

Yes, please do! Photography and video for personal use and sharing via social media is encouraged. Share them with us using #spectacleoflight #dalkeithcountrypark. Photography for commercial purposes is strictly prohibited. Please contact us with any specific requests.

No. The Drone Code specifies that drones should not be flown within 150m of a crowd therefore drones are not allowed at the Spectacle of Light.

FRIENDS OF DALKEITH FAQS

The membership costs £10 per month and is paid by direct debit. The amount shown at purchase will be slightly higher, depending on the day of the month membership is purchased. This initial payment will cover the period to the end of the following month. Subsequent payments will be £10 per month by direct debit.

The e-ticket you receive will allow access & free parking from the moment of purchase. Please bring your e-ticket to the Fort Douglas ticket cabin to be issued with your membership card. Cards are issued daily between 11am to 1pm or 3pm to 5pm.

The membership can be used by all the members of one household, however the membership card is issued with a car registration. Free parking will only be applicable to the car which is registered on the membership.

The card will have a name, car registration number and QR code on it.

No, this membership programme is separate to our Fort Douglas memberships.

You can cancel through your bank or contact us on info@dalkeithcountrypark.co.uk. If a direct debit is stopped membership will be cancelled.

Photography, Drone & Video at Dalkeith Country Park

As we are a wedding venue we are unable to allow wedding photos to be taken in The Park unless you have booked your wedding or reception at Restoration Yard.
