Not this year, however we would very much like to do so in the future. This year to ensure all visitors can chose their perfect pumpkin we have sourced our pumpkins from a reputable partner farm.
Pumpkins should last for several weeks if left uncarved, however obviously wildlife can get to them if left outside.
Yes. Pumpkin soup anyone?!
No, you can enjoy our curiously creepy pumpkin patch for as long as you like. The 30 min time slots are to help us manage capacity and ensure a wonderful experience for all our customers. However, you can stay longer if you wish.
The undercroft of The Orangerie will be fairly dark, although it will be illuminated with temporary lighting. It is an underground space, not usually accessible to the public, which will be decorated so visitors find it relatively creepy in a family friendly way! Parents should use their discretion when entering with young children. We think it’s suitable for age 5+ however you’ll be the best judge of what’s appropriate for your family. The curiously creepy pumpkin patch and undercroft are very much designed as a family experience. Please note the ground is slightly uneven in the undercroft and there are narrow spaces with low ceilings to explore.
The pumpkin patch is on ground level and located directly opposite the Restoration Yard car park, which has accessible parking spaces. Please note the pumpkin patch is held outdoors, on a grass surface which may be wet and muddy, depending on the weather conditions.

Fawkes Festival
Wrap up warmly, it is October after all! Much of the event will take place on grass, which could be muddy depending on the weather, so please wear suitable footwear.
The event will go ahead even if it rains. The only weather which may cause the event to be cancelled would be extremely high winds. In the event of the organisers having to cancel the event, an announcement will be make on the Dalkeith Country Park and Fawkes Festival websites.
Yes, but please ensure you purchase a car pass along with your event admission ticket(s). The vehicle entrance will be via King’s Gate. Please note the pedestrian entrance for this event is via Town Gate.
We understand the concerns that people may have about the impact of loud noise on the wildlife in The Park. We have taken all of the necessary steps to ensure that our events are as safe as possible for everyone involved – including the plants and animals living in and around The Park.
Fawkes Festival is taking place within the curtilage of Dalkeith Palace. This is a well-known events venue where we have previously hosted other festivals and large-scale events. This area sits a safe distance from the wider country park area, which is where the majority of wildlife resides.
We have specifically chosen to host the event in the Palace Bowl as there are very few animals living in this open space. Those that are local to the river area are more likely to roost further downstream.
Fawkes Festival is designed and produced by the team at GC Live and delivered by technical partners, West Lothian-based events group 21CC. It promises wickedly wonderful Halloween and fireworks events for all the family.
The Fawkes Festival website will provide you with further event information to plan your visit. The event organisers have also compiled ‘all you need to know’ in their event FAQs.

Visiting with Dogs
Yes, we love dogs at Dalkeith Country Park, but please keep them on lead in our car parks, in Restoration Yard courtyard and the Palace Field until across Montagu Bridge. It is particularly important that dogs are kept on lead when near any of the farm’s livestock. When off lead, let them enjoy the freedom of our trails as long as you are able to control them when they meet other walkers, wildlife or horse-riders along their way. Please remember it is an offence for any dog owner to allow their dog to be out of control in such a way as to cause alarm or make another person apprehensive. Oh and as ever, please do pick up after your dog – bag it and bin it.
Commercial dog walkers are required to apply for a permit & permission to operate within Dalkeith Country Park. To enquire or apply for a permit please contact us.
