Camping FAQs

Dalkeith Country Park is the perfect countryside location for your summer or festival camping trip near Edinburgh. We’re ideally situated for your Edinburgh festival fringe camping experience. You’ll also find yourself perfectly located to enjoy the many visitor attractions in Edinburgh, Midlothian and East Lothian plus beautiful beaches less than a thirty minute drive away. We’ve put together some FAQs below to help you plan your stay.

How do I book?

Bookings are taken online except in the cases of large groups. Unfortunately we cannot take individual bookings over the phone or email. We will open for bookings in Spring 2021 where you can book from 2nd to 30th August 2021.

When can I check in/check out?

Check in is between 2pm-6pm and check out is by 10am. If you need to check in at a different times please contact us via

Do you have showers and toilets on site?

Yes, we will have four showers with hot water available on site and toilets. Unfortunately we are not able to provide disabled toilets or facilities at this time. The facilities are rented on site and are basic, but help provide the real camping experience in a beautiful location close to Edinburgh.

Where is your nearest shop?

There is a Morrison’s (EH22 1HQ) and Sainsbury’s Local (EH22 2RF) within a five minute drive of the park.

Is there anywhere open nearby for food?

The Kitchen at Restoration Yard on site is open seven days. You can book breakfast vouchers when you book your pitch – we recommend pre-booking especially at weekends. In Dalkeith town centre you’ll find a selection of restaurants and a takeaway on the High Street, Lasswade is close by or the Newington area of Edinburgh is a short drive where you’ll find many places to dine.

What else can I do at Dalkeith Country Park?

So much! You can get 25% off tickets to Fort Douglas adventure playground if you book at the same time as booking your pitch. You’ll also find Restoration Yard Store and Restaurant in our beautifully restored stableblock and courtyard. Plus, an endless list of outdoor activities from our waymarked walks to cycling paths, fishing and wildlife spotting

Can we bring groups?

Yes, group bookings can be accepted from organised groups. Bookings for all groups, including large family or friend groups, must be notified and approved by us before booking. The campsite is not suitable for stag or hen parties. If you want to use the campsite for this type of group please contact us. Group bookings may only be made by emailing the booking office and cannot be made online – please email

Do you have disabled facilities?

Unfortunately we do not at this time.

Is there parking on site?

Yes and parking is free. There is a short three minute walk from the car park to the campsite (under 200 metres). Cars cannot be brought on the campsite to help preserve the tranquility. There will be some trolleys available to help with the transport of tents/bags to your pitch.

Are there any restrictions on driving?

Please help us keep the serenity of this rural camping experience just that by not driving your car by the camping site between the hours of 11pm and 7am.

What are the pitch sizes?

We offer small (3mx3m max, up to 3 people), medium (6mx5m max, up to 5 people or 4 adults) and large pitches (8mx8m max, 6-8 people).

Do I have to bring my own tent?

We have some small and medium pre-pitched tents. Please select this option when you book. If you have booked a pitch only you will need to bring your own tent.

Do you allow BBQs?

Yes, BBQs are allowed but must be raised above the ground and must not burn the grass. Please ensure your BBQ is disposed of in the bins provided on site.

Do you allow dogs on site?

Yes, a maximum of two dogs are allowed per pitch at £2 per dog and they must be kept on a lead on the camp site itself. No other pets are allowed. Please ensure any dog mess is cleaned up promptly and the appropriate waste bin used. There will be a sectioned-off area for dogs to use and bins provided.

Do you allow campervans/caravans or motorhomes?

We do not currently.

How is payment taken?

The full amount is taken on booking.

Do you give refunds?

Refunds are only given over 30 days in advance of the booking, no refunds after this time. There is a £15 administration fee when cancelling. If you cancel your booking 14-30 days before we will refund 50% of your booking. If you cancel less than 14 days before your holiday starts we will not be able to refund you.

What are the rules on site?

Is there any electricity available?

There isn’t electricity available on site however our reception will have some available if urgently needed.

Is there fresh water available on site?

Yes, there will be fresh water available at the washing up area. 

Is there WIFI available on site?

There is no WIFI on the campsite however during the day Restoration Yard will be open which has free WIFI in the coffee bar and our restaurant, The Kitchen. There is good 4G coverage on site too. 

Where can we wash up?

Yes, there will be two sinks with cold water available to use on site.
