Our Campsite Location

Where to start? There are so many things to do and places to see not only in Dalkeith Country Park itself but also the surrounding Lothians and Borders countryside close to our campsite location. The park is just 20 minutes from Edinburgh and 30 minutes from East Lothian’s beautiful beaches.

August is Edinburgh’s festival month and what an incredible month it is to visit the city. With shows for everyone – comedy, dance, theatre, kids – and more at venues across the city – the hardest part is choosing which to go to!

The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Held every year at the Castle, the Tattoo is performed by British Armed Forces, Commonwealth and international military bands and is a feast for the senses.

Rosslyn Chapel (17 mins by car)

One of Scotland’s most remarkable buildings, Rosslyn Chapel has been in the ownership of The Earl and Countess of Roslyn since its foundation in 1446. It became even more popular as a visitor destination after the publication of Dan Brown’s novel, The Da Vinci Code, in 2003, and is still used today as a place of worship.

National Mining Museum (12 mins by car)

A great day out for all ages – based at one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian colliery in Europe, the Lady Victoria Colliery at Newtongrange. Marel at the size, engineering feat and follow the footsteps of the miners and their families.

Edinburgh Castle is one of the most exciting historic sites in Western Europe, set in the heart of Scotland’s dynamic capital city it is sure to capture your imagination. The scenery will take your breath away.

Great fun for adults and kids – especially when the weather isn’t on your side. Discover five floors of interactive fun.


North Berwick (35 mins by car)

North Berwick is a lovely seaside town in East Lothian, boasting great beaches, coastal scenery and the Scottish Seabird Centre. It’s home to an eclectic mix of shops, cafes and bars, not to mention world-renowned golf courses. North Berwick offers striking views out to the Firth of Forth and the Bass Rock, the world’s largest northern gannet colony. Indeed, the bird takes its Latin name, Sula Bassana, from the island.

Gullane (30 mins by car)

The town of Gullane in East Lothian is best known for its golf courses, however it also boasts a magnificent sandy beach with excellent views out on to the Firth of Forth. The beach is popular for windsurfing and kite flying when the weather is windy, and for picnics, family days out and sand castle building on warm, sunny days.

The Cavaliere (Italian): The Cavaliere has evolved from its humble beginnings a small fish and chip bar, to the present day restaurant & takeaway, with its renowned reputation throughout the East of Scotland. Run buy the Crolla family for nearly 50 years, the Cavaliere is a Midlothian institution.

The Paper Mill Lasswade (10 min drive): Overlooking the beautiful River Esk in the tranquil conservation village of Lasswade, the Paper Mill is an all-day bar and restaurant situated in an historic former paper mill.
