Creating Future Connections: Town Gate Pathway
19th March, 2020
* This project, which was postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak, has now restarted. Read our full response here.*
Dalkeith Country Park is working in partnership with Midlothian Council to improve access from the town centre to the park for local residents, local businesses and day trip tourists. In response to recent research, the work is designed to help remove the physical barriers to the park so that as many people as possible can enjoy the natural and historic environment it offers in the future.
As part of this project, car parking will no longer be possible on the cobbled area as it will be replaced by a pedestrian path and three new lights illuminating the pathway. This is also designed to help reduce emissions as we believe more people will be able to enjoy walking into the park than driving through it. When complete, people will also be encouraged to walk from the park into the town centre via informative new signage about Dalkeith town in the park’s main car parks.
This project is a fantastic opportunity to explore the history and connections between Dalkeith town, the Palace and the estate, past, present and future.
Work was originally due to start on 30th March but was postponed. We are now pleased to say work has begun again on this exciting project. Thank you for your understanding.
