Inside The Hive, you’ll find fun facts and engaging info boards, like:

• Honey bees have 5 hearts and 6 legs

• They communicate using a waggle dance

• And they only fly when it’s above 10°C

Jim, known as The Bee Man, is a third-generation beekeeper with nearly 80 years of hands-on experience. He started helping his father with the hives as a child.

Beekeeping is in his family’s roots, and over the years, Jim has gained deep knowledge of bee behaviour and hive health. He truly understands these incredible insects. Thanks to Jim’s careful guidance, the bees made a smooth move into their new custom-built glass hive.

Now, located at the heart of The Park, The Hive lets visitors safely watch thousands of bees at work.

And for those with a sweet tooth…we’re celebrating the opening of The Hive with a limited-edition batch of honey from our own bees. This special honey was harvested right here at Dalkeith Country Park, made by the bees now living in our glass hive.

It’s local and bursting with the taste of summer – a true reflection of the Park’s natural beauty and bounty. You’ll find it exclusively at The Hive on Friday 17 July and then in The Store at Restoration Yard thereafter, but be quick – it’s only available in small quantities.
