How will you Make it Yours?

Will you start your family day out with treetop excitement at Go Ape? Or perhaps you’re more of a Fort Douglas adventure family? Whatever floats your summer fun boat, we’ve got the perfect day out recipe for you. To help you in the planning process, here’s how we would spend the ultimate family day out at Dalkeith Country Park.

Fort Douglas adventure playground

Fort Douglas Adventure Playground

Put your adventure foot first and start the big family day out with a trip to Fort Douglas. Bridges and slides, turreted treehouses, zip wires, giant jumping pillows, climbing walls and tunnels await. Check it out here.

Fort Douglas is also home to a delightful picnic space and a new covered area. Grab your playtime snacks & drinks from the Fort Douglas Cabin and pick your spot.

Fort Dougal is perfect for children up to 12 years, with a dedicated toddler play area for under 5s. Let the adventures begin…

The Coffee Bar

The Coffee Bar

After all of that playtime, you’ll surely be in need of a refreshment or two! Head down to Restoration Yard where you’ll find the cool and casual Coffee Bar. With a delicious selection of carefully-chosen teas and coffees, scones, Mimi’s Bakehouse cakes, gourmet sandwiches and kids lunchboxes to choose from.

There’s plenty of seating for groups and families with ample room for buggies and outdoor seating in the courtyard when the Scottish weather allows it.

Go Ape Dalkeith Country Park

Go Ape Dalkeith

Once sufficiently re-fuelled, it’s time to take to the treetops. Choose from three treetop courses all designed with adrenaline in mind. There’s a course to suit everyone from little to large! For those who want a challenge with their feet firmly on the ground Stumped will be the perfect thinky thinky activity for you.

NEW | Take your tribe into battle this summer. New to Go Ape Dalkeith, Archery Tag is a fun, fast-paced outdoor activity that combines elements of archery and dodgeball.

Ice cream at Restoration Yard

The Larder | Restoration Yard

After all of that adrenaline rush and treetop fun, an ice cream stop is definitely on the cards. The Larder – within Restoration Yard – is home to a scrumptious  array of Giacopazzi’s ice cream. Cone or tub, flake or sprinkles, you decide.

Why not take a blast to the past and treat the littles to a slushie on those extra warm summer days.

The Larder is open from 11:00 (dogs are very welcome!)

Events & More

If you still have room for more…perhaps one of The Park’s summer events will round off your family day out perfectly. Dalkeith Country Park will play host to a large variety of events this summer.

For history fanatics choose from a busy programme of exhibitions and tours within Dalkeith Palace. For big screen buffs, Adventure Cinema returns this July bringing a spectacular selection of family favourites to the big screen on The Palace lawn. And if you’re a family of farming enthusiasts – or have littles that love their farm animals – head to the Dalkeith Show on Saturday 13 July 2024.
