This FREE, open-to-all exhibition takes place from Thursday 8 to Sunday 11 October at Dalkeith Palace.
Presented by Visual Arts Scotland (VAS), The Whole and The Hole showcases moving image works exploring the creative possibilities of absence, space, and transformation. Inspired by the artistic concept of the hole as both void and form, the exhibition invites visitors to consider new ways of seeing, feeling and imagining.
Alongside it, Earth, Fire, Form celebrates the transformative alchemy of ceramics, from raw clay drawn from the earth to fired works shaped by heat, time and human imagination.

Taking place within the historic setting of Dalkeith Palace, the curated market will bring together some of Scotland’s most exciting contemporary artists and makers, offering visitors the opportunity to discover and purchase original artwork, ceramics, jewellery, textiles, prints and more.
With hundreds of visitors expected over the weekend, the market provides a vibrant showcase for both emerging and established creatives, celebrating the breadth and quality of Scotland’s contemporary visual arts and craft sector.
Applications for artists and makers to participate at the market are currently open.
Mimi's Bakehouse Pop Up Café
Enjoy lovely cake and a good cup of tea or coffee in Mimi’s Bakehouse pop up café within Dalkeith Palace. The café is open during the Scottish Furniture Makers Exhibition and features work by the Midlothian Camera Club.
