Learn about the history of Dalkeith Country Park on our historic Park tours.

The walks are informed by the experience and knowledge of Cameron Manson, retired manager of the estate. Cameron and a team of guides, share a unique insight into The Park and its history. The walking tours run every Sunday & Wednesday throughout July & August. Join us to learn about the architecture, heritage and nature of Dalkeith Country Park.

Historic Walking Tours

On these two hour walking tours you’ll visit the historic buildings and natural surroundings of Dalkeith Country Park. Sunday tours on 3, 10 & 17 July will focus on the natural environment of the Park and The Old Oak Wood. Subsequent tours and all Wednesday tours will offer an insight into the history of Dalkeith Palace, the hidden Ice House, St Mary’s Church and stunning Montagu Bridge. The tour will finish at Restoration Yard, with an overview of the historic Laundry House, renovation of the beautiful stable yard, as well as exclusive access to the crypt of The Orangerie.

Tour Information

The tours are two hours long and will run from 10.30 – 12.30 every Sunday and Wednesday throughout July and August.

Designed primarily for adults with an interest in the history, heritage, nature and architecture of Dalkeith Country Park. Families and children are very welcome, however please be aware the tour is not designed specifically for young children.

A tour guide will lead you along waymarked trails which can be muddy and the terrain uneven, depending on the weather. Please do come dressed in suitable clothing and footwear as tours will go ahead in all weather! Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but please only one dog per booking.

Tickets are now on sale for the historic walking tours.

  • Adults and Children over age of 5 – £12.50
  • Under 5’s – Free

Under 5’s are free, however please do be aware that the tour is not specifically designed for young children and some paths may not be buggy friendly.

The tours will depart from outside Restoration Yard at 10.30 so please arrive in plenty time to get parked and make your way to the departure point.
