Action-packed summer activities at Dalkeith Country Park
4th August, 2017
An action-packed programme of events to keep children busy during the summer holidays has been unveiled for Dalkeith Country Park.
Families can try their hand at archery, axe throwing, zorbing or take a spin around the Park’s beautiful surroundings on a bike from Criterium Cycle Hire.
The Park’s ten lane outdoor range is the perfect place to test out archery skills with 15 minute sessions available daily (11am to 3pm, £5 for 12 arrows) throughout the holidays.
Axe throwing sessions are also available daily for those who would like to perfect this ancient sport (11am to 3pm, £5 for 24 axes, suitable for children aged 10 and over).
Meanwhile thrill-seekers can run and roll around inside an inflatable zorb (open daily from 10.30am – 4.30pm, £5 for a five minute session).
Alternatively, take in the sights of Dalkeith Country Park’s spectacular scenery on its cycle routes. Adult and children’s bikes as well as trailers for younger tots and helmets can be hired from Criterium Cycle Hire.
Children also have the chance to join one of the Park’s entertaining and educational Ranger sessions with a selection of events taking place over the coming weeks including Den Building (9 and 16 August, 2pm), a Mini Beast Hunt (10 August, 2pm) and Kite Making (17 August, 2pm). Each session costs £3 per child and booking by calling 0131 654 1666 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org is essential.
Julie Merrilees, Visitor Services Manager at Dalkeith Country Park, said: “Our packed schedule of Ranger sessions and daily activities is sure to keep the entire family entertained this summer.
“Don’t forget to stop by Fort Douglas playground which features a brand new Young Adventurer’s Horse Box serving delicious snacks, sandwiches, drinks and ice cream.”
