“We work very hard in our lives, and while we may sleep, we rarely take time to relax. Restorative yoga poses help us learn to rest deeply and completely.”
– Judith Hanson Lasater
Restorative Yoga is the sensitive and intelligent use of a full range of props to create entirely supported yoga poses which act as environments for the body to find stillness, balance and healing.
Rest and sleep are distinct physiological states. We need both for optimal health yet chronic tiredness is becoming more common in our culture. Many of us juggle demanding and busy lives and underneath our busyness we are exhausted and depleted.
In the deep relaxation facilitated by restorative Yoga, all systems of the body are supported and nourished. Measurable results include reduction of fatigue, muscle tension, blood pressure and blood sugar levels, while “good” cholesterol levels are increased and digestion, immune function, fertility and circulation are supported and improved.
Restorative Yoga is a powerful way to help the body to heal and thrive, and to offer oneself a restorative practice can be an eloquent expression of self-compassion.
